A Story of God’s Faithfulness
The Founding Years (1982–1990)
MGBC began in 1982 under Pastor Lester Ainsworth as First Bible Baptist Church, a small group devoted to God’s Word and establishing a Bible-based, gospel-preaching church in North Adams, Massachusetts. In that first year, Pastor Eric Malachuk and his wife Shelly came to know the Lord and have been a part of our church’s story ever since. The congregation first met in a storefront and later restored our 1890s church building, relying on God’s guidance and hard work. From the very beginning, the focus was on faithful Bible teaching, prayer, and reaching our local community through evangelism and outreach.
The Building Years (1990–2015)
Pastor Eric Malachuk became lead pastor in 1990. Over the next 25 years, the church grew, developing ministries, strengthening discipleship, and serving our community faithfully. In 2001, a building expansion provided needed space for ministering to families, and in 2013 the church became known as Mount Greylock Baptist Church. Under Pastor Eric’s leadership, the church missions program expanded to support over 30 foreign mission works, and MGBC continued to impact the local community through consistent local evangelism, including the bus ministry. Hundreds of local children have been reached through the MGBC children’s ministry, helping families engage with Bible-based teaching and Christian discipleship.
The Transition Years (2016–2023)
In 2016, the church family unanimously called Pastor Ethan Malachuk to serve as co-pastor alongside his father, Pastor Eric, with the plan for a smooth transition to lead pastor. During this time, the church focused on mentoring new leaders, deepening its commitment to Bible-centered teaching, and continuing to serve both locally and globally through world missions and community outreach.
Forward by Faith (2024–Present)
In 2024, Pastor Ethan Malachuk became lead pastor. Under his leadership, MGBC continues to grow in faithfulness to Scripture, discipleship, local evangelism, and world missions. The church looks to the future with hope, trusting God to guide its mission to share the gospel in our communities around North Adams, the Berkshires, Southern Vermont, and beyond. MGBC remains committed to being a Bible-based, evangelistic church where families can grow in faith, participate in Christian ministry, and serve their community.
